Mounting in a 19" Rack
MarketSpark M1 and M2 equipment solutions are primarily designed to be wall mounted on a wall, however there is nothing that would inherently prevent those same solutions from being mounted on a shelf in an equipment rack using something like the following:
Note: M1 enclosures now use the M2 enclosure. This document is for any current M1 builds in service.
Shelves such as the one shown above are designed to be put into a 19" rack and have a usable width of approximately 17.2". Shelves like these are fine if there is plenty of clearance ( >8" or 5U for M1; > 12" or 7U for M2) above the equipment to accommodate the opening of the enclosure door. For installations that are more space constrained, the use of a sliding tray/shelf that can be pulled out for servicing the units is recommended.
M1 Mounting
Note: M1 enclosures now use 15.2" x 11.8" x 7.2. This document is for any current M1 builds in service.
The M1 enclosure from MarketSpark measures approximately 11.8" x 7.9" x 6.7". When laying flat on a shelf, this means that the unit is 6.7" tall and 7.9" wide, consuming 4 rack units (4RU = 7"), accommodating the placement of two units side-by-side on the shelf:
If the shelf has ventilation holes as shown in Figure 1, then the wall mount feet can be used to secure the enclosures to the shelf. Otherwise, holes must be drilled into the shelf to secure the enclosure to the shelf with the wall mount feet.
In the orientation of Figure 2, the 66 block punchdown on each enclosure also need to moved from their default location on the side of the enclosure. Each of the power cords from the M1 units should be installed into its own power outlet on the the rack's power distribution circuitry.
Note that M1 units typically come with cellular antennas that are located inside the enclosure. When mounting these systems in a rack as described above, it is recommended that an antenna cable be run external to the enclosure so that adequate signals can be picked up away from the equipment in the rack.
M2 Mounting
Due to the size of the M2 enclosure (15.2" x 11.8" x 7.2"), only a single M2 system can be placed on each shelf. Once installed, the shelf + M2 enclosure takes up 5 RU (8.75")
- Note: could potentially be squeezed in to a very tight 4RU (7"):
If the shelf has ventilation holes as shown in Figure 1, then the wall mount feet can be used to secure the enclosures to the shelf. Otherwise, holes must be drilled into the shelf to secure the enclosure to the self with the wall mount feet.
